Studio 8 1/2 recently converted a 16th century Turkish bath in Bulgaria into a popup art library. The project brought international attention to the historic monument and won the Architizer A+ Popular Choice Award in the pop-ups category. The project was entitled “|CON|Temporary Library and was created for the Urban Dreams Festival, which is a month long celebration by the Center for Contemporary Art of Plovdiv. The architects created a “spiral wood structure (that) perfectly complimented the shape of the hall while directing the viewer to its spectacular 43-meter-high cupola. The installation consisted of a sitting area, a bookshelf, and a computer in which visitors could peruse the Center’s archives”.
