Amazon.com has proposed three steel and glass globes in the center of its high rise headquarters in Seattle’s Denny Triangle. The shopping website’s proposal sparked controversy upon its unveiling. “The structure would feature five floors of flexible work space totaling 65,000 square feet and would be ‘capable of accommodating mature trees’, according to plans filed with the city. The spheres would range in height from 80 feet to 95 feet.” Some people are finding the spheres “whimsical and optimistic”, while others have criticized the plan for being “too similar in style to the EMP Museum and the Seattle Public Library”. Amazon wants to build up 3.3 million square feet of office space on the three block area it bought at the end of 2012. If they gain approval for their plans, this project will become the largest development in the downtown area ever.
