Ashgabat By: David Stanley
Arup’s Ashgabat Olympic Complex of Turkmenistan will be one of the largest project’s Arup has ever completed. The 750,000 square meter complex is designed to international sports federation standards and is entering its second phase of construction. Arup will add an aquatics center, indoor athletics arena, tennis center, velodrome, training halls, offices, medical centers, and media facilities. Ashgabat will host the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in 2017, and upon its completion “the Olympic village is expected to have a significant position in the world sports community and the Central Asian sports community”. Arup is not only proving the design for Ashgabat, but also the structural, mechanical, engineering, and infrastructure support.
