Resnick Institute for Science, Energy, and Sustainability Resnick Institute for Science, Energy, and Sustainability

Renovating the vacant Jorgensen Laboratory, Caltech opened the LEED Platinum Research Building in 2012 to house an institute for science, energy, and sustainability. Originally built in 1974, the poorly light and concrete laboratory was redesigned by John Friendman Alice Kimm Architects, and the space now works toward finding solutions for creating and conserving energy.

Renewable materials were used in its construction, efficient windows and a skylight were installed, and a sunny pavilion was added for special events and educational presentations.  The building was awarded the Education Architecture Award from the LA Business Council in 2013.
