Ni Zhaoxing, a Chinese billionaire and chairmen of a property development firm, has proposed plans to construct a replica of the Crystal Palace in south London, on the same site where the original burned down in 1936. With an investment of £500m, the building may be constructed as soon as 2018.

Details of the plan haven’t been revealed to the public, however, which as caused concern and skepticism among locals due the space being parkland. In 1997, a multiplex of retail units, bars, and restaurants was proposed, however, it was ultimately defeated after a long legal battle.
