AHA+ and Solbjor Arkitekter have been announced as finalists in an international competition for the Nordic Built Challenge for an expansion of Postgirobygget, a high-rise in Oslo, Norway. Their concept “aims at becoming a new and innovative way to meet the challenges of tomorrow while ensuring financial and practical viability”. The architects had three main tasks: expanding the existing building in a sustainable way on a small site, connecting the building to a new entrance, and utilizing local resources as much as possible. The plan is highly ambitious, the architects’ “proposal is to build the highest wooden building structure in the world”. The current plaza of the existing building is completely barricaded from the pedestrian view, making it very unwelcoming. The new entry will open up the area and create an inviting public and private space.
