UCLA’s Architecture and Urban Design school has always been interested in cross-disciplinary studies and research. They recently announced that they will be offering advanced graduate courses that will be taught by such names as Thom Mayne, Greg Lynn, and Frank Gehry. Each architect will tailor their class to their own work and innovation in technology. Gehry plans to focus his course on “investigating technologies that go off the grid”, while Lynn plans to “explore the potential for transformable structures equipped with robotics and sensing technologies that can adapt and move in response to environmental changes”. These studio classes are combining industrial design with architecture in a completely new way. There are possibilities of collaboration with industry leaders like Toyota, Boeing and NASA.
