Microscopic Slide By: UAF Center for Distance Education
The Hunter Medical Research Institute near Newcastle, NSW, Australia is recently complete. It is “a leading medical research facility which fosters collaboration and facilitates the translation of research into improved health outcomes”. The four-level research center was designed and built by Denton Corker Marshall + SKM-S2F Architects. The new facility provides space for over 400 researchers and consists of about 15,900 square meters of floor space. The space is relatively open, but the offices and laboratories are separated by a P2C barrier. The exterior uses various horizontal planes on the facade and the entire design mirrors the functionality of a microscope slide used in medical research.
