Facebook Headquarters By: Mark Doliner
Frank Gehry’s design for the new Facebook headquarters in Menlo Park has been approved. The city, on the outskirts of San Francisco Bay Area, gave the go-ahead with a unanimous vote. The Mayor, Peter Ohtaki, said “Where’s the ‘Like’ button?” in regards to the design. This step comes after Facebook and the Menlo Park City Council asked Gehry to tone down his original design, saying that “one of those things were too flashy and not in keeping with the kind of culture of Facebook”. The linear complex consists of a massive 10-acre “room” on a 22-acre site and will be connected to the company’s current headquarters by an underground tunnel. An expansive rooftop park tops the building, giving the entire center a natural appearance where the buildings are almost completely camouflaged when viewing from a distance.
