The Schola Foundation’s Niara Sports Club is located in Valladolid, Spain. It was designed by Amas4arquitectura and experiments with massiveness and openness of space. The building is a geometric array of red-clay colored blocks with seemingly few windows. It is a heavy looking building yet, the interior is bright, airy and open. The blank space and continuous plane on the exterior is purposeful, it promotes passive energy and allows for storage and installation space while maintaining the continuous feel of the interior. The windows and light openings are discrete, almost hidden at times, but are very effective. The club houses both educational and recreational areas for children of different ages, a parents’ area, offices, and a block of residences and independent services. At the center of all these rooms and areas are the sports complex and chapel.
