The two preservationists challenging the city of Chicago’s decision to reject landmark status for Prentice Women’s Hospital have withdrawn their lawsuits. Northwestern University will now move forward and demolish the building to make space for their new biomedical research facility. Prentice was designed by Bertrand Goldberg and is an important element in Chicago’s skyline. It is a tragedy that the city has failed to preserve this historic modern marvel. Prentice is a concrete cloverleaf atop a glass and steel box, and is as unique as it is noteworthy. This structure will be missed in Chicago.
