Even though Pan American World Airlines closed in 1991, the Pan Am Worldport at JFK has remained an iconic Modernist structure. However, the terminal has become non-operational since Delta Airlines, the new owner, opened their Terminal 4. Several ramps of the Worldport have already been bulldozed, and workers are preparing the building for demolition. Though some argue it’s an important historical piece, others argue that there is no conceivable use for the building, and that there is little enough space at JFK already.
