Set to open by 2018 in Incheon International Airport, South Korea’s largest and busiest airport, the 7.4 million square-foot Terminal 2 will include running waterfalls, acres of gardens, a shopping district, optimized natural ventilation, and a large-scale installation of photovoltaic cells. Energy efficiency is emphasized in the design, and the airport will be constructed using locally sourced materials. The terminal is in the shape of a phoenix, and architects hope that the project will educate and inspire the millions of passengers who travel through the airport every year.
