The Sustainable Design Lab at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has developed a Solar Map called the MoDe Solar Tool. MoDe Studio, a Boston-based consulting and design workshop collaborated with MIT students on this prototype. The Cambridge Solar tool shows every Cambridge residence and business and how much electricity can be produced on their rooftops from photovoltaic (PV) panel systems, how much it will cost and what the payoff is in the long term, and how much pollution will be reduced. The project is an excellent tool for individuals to see exactly how PV panels as a source of energy help the environment and also pay off for those who invest.
