Award-winning 72-year-old architect Ed Mazria first shook up the world of architecture in 2003 by releasing research showing that U.S. building sector was responsible for producing over half of all greenhouse gas emissions in the country. Since then, he has led the charge for more environmentally friendly new construction, helping launch the “2030 Challenge,” which proposes that all all major renovations and new buildings constructed be carbon-neutral by 2030. A recent survey of U.S. architectural firms indicated that a full 52% have already taken up the 2030 challenge, showing that Mazria is one of the most influential thinkers in the green architecture movement today.
